Boise evens up series with 5-2 win
Cal Quantrill couldn’t keep his scoreless innings streak in tact and the Tri-City Dust Devils fell to the Boise Hawks 5-2 Monday in Boise.
The Padres top draft pick (8th overall) hadn’t allowed a run in his first two starts as a Dust Devil, and the Hawks (8-10) quickly ended that when Steven Linkous led off the bottom of the first with a single that turned into a three-bagger courtesy of a fielding error by left fielder Josh Magee, then scored on a wild pitch by Quantrill (0-1).
Two more errors by the Dust Devils in the fourth allowed Boise to push across two more runs to take a 3-1 lead that would never be relinquished.
All three runs Quantrill gave up in his 3 2/3 innings were unearned. He has yet to give up an earned run in 11 innings for Tri-City (7-11).
Luis Asuncion drove in both of the Dust Devils’ runs with a single in the fourth scoring Boomer White and another knock in the sixth driving in Kyle Overstreet.
The Dust Devils and Hawks will play the rubber match of their five-game set at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Getting the start will be lefty Eric Lauer (the Padres third selection in the first round), who has not given up a run in his first 13 innings with the Dust Devils.
