Tri-City Dust Devils

Late-rally fuels Boise victory

Daniel Suero had four hits and drove in five runs, Willie Abreu hit his fifth homer of the season and the Boise Hawks beat the Tri-City Dust Devils 11-4 Sunday in Boise.

With the game tied at four heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks (7-10, second half) loaded the bases with no outs, and Suero dealt the eventual game-winning blow — a two-run single through the right side of the infield. Steven Linkous followed with an RBI single and Garrett Hampson capped the scoring with another RBI knock to make it 8-4.

Suero had another two-run single in Boise’s three-run bottom of the eighth. He finished 4-for-5 with a double, five RBIs and two runs scored.

The Dust Devils (7-10) had several chances to increase their run production, but were stymied by the four double plays the Hawks infield turned. Boomer White grounded into two of them, including a 4-6-3 he hit into in the third after Tri-City led off the inning with a walk and a single.

Tri-City starter Hansel Rodriguez continued to struggle in his second start in the Padres organization, allowing two runs — both earned — on four hits and walking three Hawks over 3 1/3 innings. Rodriguez has given up five runs in 7 1/3 innings since joining the Dust Devils.

Jordan Guerrero (4-5) got stuck with the loss after giving up three earned runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. Guerrero gave up a walk and a double to the first two batters in Boise’s four-run seventh before giving way to Nick Monroe.

Tri-City and Boise will play the fourth game of their five-game series at 6:15 p.m. Monday. Cal Quantrill (RHP, 0-0, 0.00 ERA) — who hasn’t allowed a run in his two starts since joining the Dust Devils — is expected to face Antonio Santos (RHP, 3-4, 5.16 ERA).
