NWL: Vancouver Canadians sweep Tri-City Dust Devils

Once again, the Tri-City Dust Devils outhit the Vancouver Canadians, but failed to generate runs in a 3-1 loss Sunday at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver (3-3) swept the three-game series, while Tri-City (1-5) has lost five of six to open the second half of the season and sits in last place in the North.

The Northwest League will be off Monday-Wednesday for its All-Star break. The NWL All-Stars will play the Pioneer League All-Stars on Tuesday in Ogden, Utah.

NWL play will resume Thursday with the Dust Devils hosting the Boise Hawks.

Sunday, the Canadians scored the only runs they would need in a two-run fourth inning. J.B. Woodman scored on a Jacob Anderson double, while Anderson scored on a base hit by Nash Knight.

Vancouver would add an insurance run in the seventh.

Tri-City scored its lone run in the sixth inning when Buddy Reed scored on a G.K. Young single.

The Dust Devils outhit Vancouver 10-7 but left 11 runners stranded on base. Tri-City was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Reed, Boomer White and Kyle Overstreet each had two hits for Tri-City, while Will Headean pick up the the loss to fall to 2-4 on the season.

Saturday night, Rodrigo Orozco scored the winning run on an error with two outs in the ninth inning, as the Canadians rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Dust Devils.

The Dust Devils held a 4-3 lead after seven innings. Chris Baker drove in a run in the first, Luis Asuncion scored on a wild pitch in the second, Baker scored on a Boomer White single in the sixth, and Taylor Kohlwey scored on a Baker single in the seventh.

The Canadians scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get back in the game.

Vancouver, which had just four hits, drew 12 walks off four Tri-City pitchers. Evan Miller was credited with a blown save and the loss.

Baker went 3-for-4 for Tri-City, driving in two runs, while Asuncion hit his fourth double of the season.
