Tri-City Dust Devils

NWL: Biggio, Canadians top Dust Devils

Cavan Biggio terrorized the Tri-City Dust Devils Sunday, picking up three hits and two stolen bases to lead the Vancouver Canadians to a 6-2 home win and a series victory.

The son of Hall-of-Famer Craig Biggio, Cavan Biggio got his day started early by leading off the bottom of the first with a line-drive single and later stealing home to tie the game at one.

Vancouver (13-11) broke the game open in the bottom of the third by scoring four runs on three hits to take a 5-1 lead that would never be relinquished. J.B. Woodman and Deiferson Barreto both hit doubles in the frame and Bryan Lizardo drove in two runs on a base hit to right.

The Dust Devils’ (13-11) starting pitching woes continued as Jordan Guerrero (2-2) recorded just six outs and gave up four runs — all earned — due in large part to the five walks he issued. Aaron Cressley and Jesse Scholtens again proved to be reliable relief arms as they each fired two innings of shutout relief.

The Canadians pulled even with the Dust Devils at the top of the Northwest League North division standings with the win. The Everett AquaSox began their game with Spokane Saturday a half game off the pace.

The Canadians and Dust Devils will wrap up their three game series at 7:05 p.m. Monday. San Diego Padres’ fourth-round draft pick Joey Lucchesi (1-0, 4.00 ERA) is expected to make his second start for the Dust Devils.
