Tri-City tacks on in middle innings, beats SK 7-2

Kyle Overstreet
Kyle Overstreet Tri-City Herald

Kyle Overstreet went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs and the Tri-City bullpen combined for four innings of scoreless relief Saturday to lift the Dust Devils to a 7-2 win at Salem-Keizer.

The bulk of the scoring for the Dust Devils (5-4) came in the top of the fifth when the bats rattled for four runs on three hits, including a double by Jose Savinon. The Volcanoes (5-4) walked two batters and hit Boomer White in the inning.

All seven of Tri-City’s runs were asessed to Salem-Keizer starter Melvin Adon (0-1).

Starting pitcher Jordan Guerrero (1-1) struggled a bit out of the gate for Tri-City, giving up two earned runs in the first two innings, but ended up leaving the game with a five-run lead after the fifth to put him in line for the win.

From there on, Evan Miller and Jose Castillo gritted through four scoreless innings to lock up the victory, despite the duo allowing a combined nine baserunners.

Rayan Hernandez was a bright spot in the Salem-Keizer bullpen as he closed out the game with a perfect three innings of relief. He struck out four Dust Devils.

With the win, the Dust Devils have taken two-out-of-three from the Volcanoes to begin their five-game set. The series continues at 5:05 p.m. Sunday and concludes at 6:35 p.m. Monday.
