Dust Devils blank Spokane 8-0 in NWL baseball

Peter Van Gansen had a hand in five runs, and Adrian De Horta threw five innings of two-hit ball to lead the Tri-City Dust Devils to an 8-0 win over the Spokane Indians in Northwest League baseball action Friday night at Gesa Stadium.

It was the first game in Tri-City’s final series of the regular season.

De Horta walked three and struck out six, leaving with a 5-0 lead. Relievers Nathan Foriest and Phil Maton each threw two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.

Van Gansen doubled and was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Rod Boykin, hitting leadoff in front of Van Gansen, was 3-for-5 and also scored three runs.

Boykin singled and stole second in Tri-City’s first turn at bat, scoring on Van Gansen’s double. Van Gansen moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Ty France’s ground out for a quick 2-0 lead.

France’s two-run double sparked a three-run outburst in the third for the Dust Devils, who play at 7:15 p.m. today.
