Dust Devils shut out Spokane to salvage win in series finale
Nick Margevicius threw the first five innings of a five-hit shutout Friday as the Tri-City Dust Devils topped the host Spokane Indians 4-0 to salvage a win in the finale of the three-game series.
Tri-City (17-13, 37-31) headed to Hillsboro on Saturday to begin a five-game series against the NWL South Division-leading Hops.
Margevicius (3-0) allowed just three hits and struck out three, dropping his ERA to 1.50 after his fifth start with the Dust Devils. Four pitchers helped shut the door behind him, including Elliot Ashbeck, who gave up one hit over two innings.
Tri-City struck early when Robbie Podorsky led off the game with a base hit, moved to second on a Kelvin Melean walk, then stole third and came around to score when the catcher’s throw went into left field. Podorsky also picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the two-run top of the ninth.
The victory moved the Dust Devils back into a tie with the first-half North Division champ Vancouver Canadians at the top of the second-half standings, and moved Spokane (16-14, 32-36) a game back.
