Podorsky delivers Tri-City’s 5th walk-off of season
Jalen Washington led off the bottom of the 11th with a double, then Robbie Podorsky drove him in with a ground ball to short to give the Tri-City Dust Devils an 8-7 win over the Boise Hawks on Thursday night, their fifth walk-off victory of the season in their first game back from the All-Star break.
The Dust Devils (5-3 second half, 25-21 overall) continued their five-game series with the Hawks (2-6, 21-25) Friday.
Luis Asuncion, the All-Star Game MVP, hit a two-run double in Tri-City’s three-run eighth inning that tied the game at 8-all and eventually forced extras. Tre Carter had a game-high four hits and drove in two runs as well.
Tri-City’s first two pitchers of the night — Ben Scheckler and Blake Rogers — each gave up three runs and combined to surrender nine hits and four walks over 6 1/3 innings. However, the back-end of the bullpen was lights out, as Dauris Valdez and Trevor Megill (1-0) pitched three no-hit innings to close out the game, allowing just one base runner.
Aldemar Burgos went 0-for-4 on the night, but laid down a sacrifice bunt to get Washington to third base in the 11th, which set up the game-winning play.
