Mariners promoting pair of top-five prospects to Triple-A Tacoma, per reports
The Seattle Mariners are promoting Lazaro Montes and Michael Arroyo to Triple-A, per MLB Pipeline, bringing the franchise’s top position-player prospects to Tacoma.
Montes, 21, is Seattle’s No. 3 prospect behind pitchers Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan. The 6-foot-5 outfielder is considered the No. 26 prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, after a red-hot June earned him Texas League Player of the Month honors (12 HR, 30 RBI, 1.199 OPS).
In 79 games for Double-A Arkansas before his promotion, the left-handed-hitting slugger slashed .234/.369/.550 with 65 hits and 66 RBI.
Montes’ 25 home runs lead all players in the Mariners system.
Arroyo, 21, originally signed with the Mariners as a shortstop but has split time evenly between second base and left field this season. Seattle’s No. 4 prospect slashed .287/.364/.456 in 65 games for Double-A Arkansas, adding 10 home runs and 13 stolen bases.
Arroyo’s defensive versatility plays to his advantage in the Seattle system, potentially offering a clearer path to playing time following the recent promotions of top infield prospects Cole Young (2025) and Colt Emerson (2026).
Mariners Player Development announced both promotions Monday on X.
Triple-A Tacoma opens a six-game series at Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Las Vegas Ballpark.
