Shawn O’Malley made the most of his return to the Pacific Northwest on Thursday night, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in the Tacoma Rainiers’ 10-4 loss to the Memphis Redbirds at Cheney Stadium.

Playing in his highest level, AAA, since an emergency appendectomy in March and arthroscopic shoulder surgery in May, the 2006 Southridge High School graduate picked up a base hit in his first at-bat, walked and later scored in his second, and drove in Ian Miller with a line-drive single in his third.

His final two at-bats were also positive — a line-out to center in the seventh inning and an RBI groundout in the ninth — and he kicked off a 4-6-3 double play behind starting pitcher Christian Bergman in the top of the second.

O’Malley played in eight games for the Seattle Mariners’ AA Affiliate Arkansas Travelers from July 24-Aug. 1, and is 8-for-13 with five RBIs in his past three games.

The Rainiers will try to even up their four-game series with the Redbirds at one game apiece at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Starting lineups have not yet been announced.
