Former Southridge High standout Mason Martin continues to impress at the pro level.

A 17th-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates this spring, Martin hit his 10th home run of the summer Tuesday for the Gulf Coast League Pirates — a solo shot in the fourth inning of the Pirates’ 8-4 victory over the GCL Braves.

The blast tied a GCL Pirates single-season home run record. Walter Young hit 10 in 2000. The GCL Pirates have been playing since 1968.

This summer, Martin has played in 35 games. In 116 at-bats, he is hitting .310 with a .463 on-base percentage. He has 36 hits, including eight doubles and the 10 home runs. He has 20 RBIs and has scored 36 runs.

The Pirates, who have been eliminated from the playoffs, have four regular-season games remaining.
