Caiden Thomsen hit a solo home run and the Walla Walla Valley Little League All-Stars put up five early runs, but it wasn’t enough to hold off a bombardment from Fairfield American (Conn.) on Monday in Williamsport, Pa., as WWVLL fell 14-6 and was eliminated from the Little League World Series.

Fairfield hit three home runs, four doubles and a triple to power its way to victory. Walla Walla built a 5-2 victory for starter Drew Coleman after Hayden Lomeli’s two-run single to cap the scoring in the three-run top of the third, but eight runs by Fairfield in the fourth and four in the fifth would prove plenty to mount the comeback.

Walla Walla Valley lost the opening game of the World Series to Santa Margarita (Calif.), 9-0, on Friday, but rallied back to defeat Sioux Falls (S.D.) 4-3 the following day to make it through the weekend.

Coached by Charlie Thomsen, — assistants Mark Welter and Eric Wood — Walla Walla is the first Mid-Columbia team to play in the LLWS since Richland National in 2003.
