Kamiakin crowns two champions; Grandview girls have two champs, team title
The Kamiakin Braves crowned two champions Saturday at Mat Classic in Tacoma.
Kamiakin’s Riley Gurr won the 3A 113-pound title, pinning Ryan McGhee of Kelso in 35 seconds.
Nick Little, ranked No. 1 in the state, took home the 285-pound title after beating Antonio Corea of Auburn Mountainview 6-3.
Richland heavyweight Nic Workman upset top-ranked Dallas Goodpaster of Evergreen 4-2 for his first state title.
In the 4A 120-pound title match, Sunnyside’s Jacob Mendoza defeated Nick Hara of Moses Lake 7-5 (OT).
Royal’s Kiki Chaballa won the 1A 120-pound title with a 2-1 win over TJ Baun of Colville.
Othello’s Alejandro Cardenas took top honors at 126 pounds in the 2A division with a 3-1 win over Andres Aguilera of Toppenish.
In the girls tournament, Grandview’s Viannei Perez won her second consecutive state title, taking the 105-pound class with a 6-0 win over Sunnyside’s Stephanie Blankenship.
The Greyhounds Desiree Zavala won her fourth consecutive state title, pinning Ally De La Cruz of Kamiak in 5:01. She finished the season 33-0 with 33 pins.
Grandview won the girls team title, rolling up 92 points with just four wrestlers. Sunnyside was fifth with 69 points.
Pasco’s Jake Covington was second at 138 pounds in the 4A division, falling 7-2 to Leviticus Arizpe of Decatur.
Chiawana’s Levi McBride was second at 220 (4A), falling 7-5 to Andrzej Hughes-Murray of Federal Way.
