Mid-Columbia wrestling and swimming roundup for Jan. 23: Hermiston grapplers second at Reser’s
Hermiston had three individual titlists at the Reser’s Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Hillsboro, Ore., as the Bulldogs finished second in the team standings.
Three-time OSAA state champion Sam Colbray won his third 195-pound Reser’s title when he beat Jamarcus Grant of Century 3-1 in overtime.
The top-seeded Colbray led 1-0 with 40 seconds left in the third round before the third-seeded Grant tied it up to push the match into OT.
In the 152 final, sixth-seeded Valen Wyse pinned No. 8 Cole Ovens of Crook County in 1:26.
Wyse beat No. 2 Tanner Earhart of Dallas 8-5 in the semifinals, while Ovens knocked off top-seeded Tanner Sallee of Lebanon in Friday’s quarterfinals.
At 182, second-seeded Bob Coleman scored a takedown with 2 seconds remaining to defeat No. 1 Tyler Self of Glencoe 4-3 for the championship.
Hermiston finished the tournament with 177 points. Defending champion Crook County won the team title with 201.

DREAM DUALS: Chiawana knocked off Mead 42-24 in the 4A finals of the Dream Duals in Spokane.
Cameron Silvers (195 pounds), Levi McBride (220), Nathan Bengen (126) and Erick Lucero (132) all went 4-0 on the day for the Riverhawks, who had wins over Bethel (39-27), fifth-ranked University (32-20) and seventh-ranked Central Valley (66-9) before meeting the Panthers in the finals.
Kamiakin took second in the 3A finals, losing 35-24 to Mt. Spokane. Riley Gurr (113) went 4-0 for the Braves, while Zach Borisch (170) was 3-1.
SWIMMING
YAKIMA VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIPS: Grandview’s Tavian Valenzuela finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke and 10th in the 50 freestyle, helping the Greyhounds take fifth in the team standings at Lions Pool in Yakima.
Levi Russell was third in the 100 backstroke to lead ninth-place Prosser.
Parker Van de Graaf, Sunnyside Christian’s lone competitor, placed second in diving. The 13 points he earned gave Sunnyside Christian a tie for 10th in the team standings.
