Wrestling: Kiona-Benton wins Best of the West title
Thanks to titles from Cody Zyph at heavyweight and Cruz DelAngel at 182 pounds, Kiona-Benton won the team title during the individual portion of the Best of the West wrestling tournament Saturday at Pasco High.
Zyph pinned Evergreen’s Austin Wright in 5 minutes, 20 seconds, while DelAngel pinned Centennial (Idaho)’s Kyzer Bailey in 3:38.
The Bears finished with 106 points, while Mountain View was second at 99.5 and Prairie third at 99.
Kiona-Benton also got a second-place finish from Tanner Cook at 220.Pasco took eighth with 68 points, while Kamiakin was ninth with 67 and Richland 10th with 60.5.
Tyler Almaguer won the title at 113 pounds for the Braves, while Pasco’s Timmy Martinez won at 126 pounds, and Connell’s Greg Heinen captured gold at 195.
Richland’s Pryce Seely took second at 138 pounds, while Connell’s Robert Orozco (152) and Southridge’s Bryce Overholt (170) also placed second.
The tournament featured 21 schools from three states. Newberg, Ore., won the team dual title Friday.

Teammates Damien Martinez was seventh at 285 and Andy Wagner was eighth at 120.
The Bulldogs finished in 13th in the team standings with 92.5 points. Kuna, Idaho, won the title with 193 points, while Chiawana was 26th with 51 points.
Tyler Vargas (170) and Levi McBride (220) both finished eighth for the Riverhawks.
