99 Mid-Columbia wrestlers heading to Tacoma for the state tournament. Here’s who is going

The Mid-Columbia is expected to send 99 wrestlers to Tacoma for the WIAA state high school wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday.

Of those, 25 will arrive in Tacoma as regional champions.

Here’s a look at who is going this week:

Class 4A

The Chiawana Riverhawks — which won the team title at Mead with 325 points — will take nine wrestlers to Tacoma, four of them regional champs.

Three defending state champions — Isaiah Anderson at 195, Tyson Stover at 182, and Darion Johnson — won their regional titles.

Johnson, a sophomore, won a state title at 120 last year. But he grew in the off season and has been competing at 152, where he rolled through the regional competition with two pins and two decisions.

“He’s gotten big,” said Chiawana coach Jack Anderson. “He probably grew four inches after last year’s state tournament. Moving up weight classes wasn’t a problem for him.”

In addition, senior Robby Vaughn won the regional title at 138, pinning three opponents and getting a technical fall on a fourth.

Other Riverhawks qualifiers are Judah Bishop (second at 145), Riley Cissne (second at 170), Nate Montelongo (third at 120), JJ Rodrigiez (fourth at 285), and Lance Stover (second at 132).

Pasco High is sending four to state — including senior Isaiah Gonzalez at 160, who won the regional title and is 41-0 this season.

Also going in as a regional champ will be Nathaniel Tovar at 113 pounds. Eric Correa (second at 120) and Miguel Hinojosa (third at 132) also qualified for state for the Bulldogs.

Hanford and Walla Walla will each be sending two contestants to state: Treyton Keller (third at 152) and Jakobie Reynolds (fourth at 195) for the Falcons; Jakob Humphrey (third at 160) and Ruben Lozano (fourth at 113).

Kamiakin had one in Gilbert Marquez at 195 pounds, while Hermiston had two — Sam Cadenas at 220 pounds, and Dustyn Coughlin at 285.

Coughlin was especially impressive, pinning all three of his opponents.

Besides Marquez, Kamiakin will be sending four others to the state tournament: Joel Chavez (second at 152), Jaxin McCallum (fourth at 285), Guillermo Ramirez (second at 120), and Payton Smith (second at 106).
