Gonzalez leads Pasco to third place at Inland Empire
Isaiah Gonzalez won the 138-pound title, and Nate Tovar was second at 106 to lead Pasco to a third-place finish Saturday at the Inland Empire Classic at Central Valley High School in Spokane.
The Bulldogs, who also got a third-place finish from Davion Pruitt at 285, compiled 172 points. Mead won the team title with 225.5 points, with Moses Lake second (202.5).
“The boys did a great job this weekend,” Pasco coach Jay Covington said. “They fought their butts off.”
Pasco also got a third-place finish from Jose Tovar (195), while Eric Correa (106) was fourth, Avery Burrows (182) and Dominick Almaguer (220) were fifth, and David Tobias (145) was sixth.
Chiawana, which had five guys in the semifinals, got titles from Riley Cissne (152) and Josh Alvarez (285) to finish sixth in the team standings.
Alvarez beat Mid-Columbia Conference foe Pruitt in the semifinals to advance.
Kobe Santoyo (126) was second for the Riverhawks, while Tyson Stover (160) was third, Morgan McFee (138) and Tavin Blair were fifth, and J.J. Rodriguez (285) was fourth.
Kamiakin also had five in the semifinals, but finished with no champions and dropped to ninth place in the team standings after being third after the first day of action.
Jacob Olson (182) finished second for the Braves, while Austin Hayward (113), Xavier Zavala (120) and Luke Eskelsen (220) were third, and Sione Halo (160) sixth.
Kennewick’s Emilio Ramos finished third at 170, while Richland’s Patrick Workman was third at 152.
Cissne beat Workman 5-3 in the semifinals.
For Hanford, Hayden Henry (182) was fourth, while Austin Patton (106), Nate Say (132) and Jonathan Burt (220) were sixth.
Walla Walla had Edwin Romero (152) place fourth, while McKinley Hudiburg (106) was fifth.

Girls wrestling
WARDEN INVITE: The Hanford girls finished third in the team standings at the Warden Invite, with Taylor Wilson winning the 100-pound title and Grace Nelson the 190-pound title.
Taylor Robbins was second at 125, while Hailey Say was third at 130. Michaela Kane was 1-0 on the day at 170, then was injured in her second match.
Wilson beat Aaliyah Escamilla of Warden 7-6 in their championship match.
Nelson pinned Reyna Huecias of Mabton to win her title, while Robbins was pinned by three-time state champion Cameron Guerin of Davis in her title match.
Say pinned Jennifer Ramos of Granger in the third-fourth match.
