Prep volleyball roundup for Sept. 25

The Pasco volleyball team got 18 kills and 15 digs from Catelyn Linke in a 25-18, 26-24, 25-15 Mid-Columbia Conference home victory over Kennewick on Thursday.

Pasco is 4-2 entering Tuesday’s match against Southridge (5-1), but coach Jackie Fluaitt said her team isn’t thinking about its upstart status in the MCC.

“We focus on each play,” she said. “We don’t worry about whether we win or lose. We just focus on the process and each ball that comes over the net.”

Pasco fended off a challenge from Kennewick in the second set.

“Kennewick’s a force to be reckoned with,” Fluaitt said. “They’re a great team. They serve really well. Their setter is really difficult to read. They’re not an easy team by any means.”

Set scores: Pasco 25-18, 26-24, 25-15. Kennewick—N/A. Pasco—Catelyn Linke 18 kills, 15 digs; Victoria Estes 26 assists.

Chiawana 3, Hanford 1: The Riverhawks let a large lead slip away in the first set but rebounded to take the next three in an MCC road victory over the Falcons.

McKaidan Moore had 12 kills and 21 digs, and Ashtin Olin finished with 44 assists as Chiawana ended a four-match losing streak.

“The number of unforced errors was way down,” Riverhawks coach Jim Steach said. “We’ve been giving a lot of points away by not making wise decisions.”

“Everyone contributed tonight,” Richland coach Bob Raidl said. “It was fun to watch from the bench.”

Reece Carman had 13 kills and 11 digs for Walla Walla, which fell to 1-5 in the MCC. Madi Doepker finished with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Taking a set from the Bombers was of little consolation to Blue Devils coach Kim McDaniels, who said her team has the ability to win against its conference rivals.

“We’re getting into a weird groove where we play up and we do great for a few points, and then we make a few errors and we get down,” McDaniels said. “It’s been a roller-coaster ride. We’re looking for leaders right now. Who’s going to pick us up when we’re down?”
