Prep volleyball roundup for Sept. 18: Pasco continues to impress in MCC

After years of sitting at the bottom of its conference, the Pasco volleyball team is making some noise.

Ashlin Orozco had 17 kills and 18 digs, and Victoria Estes added 31 assists and was perfect from the service line Thursday in a 17-25, 25-9, 28-26, 25-14 victory over Hanford. The Bulldogs improved to 2-2 in the Mid-Columbia Conference.

“Every day we are working on our game,” Pasco coach Jackie Fluaitt said. “Hanford beat us in the jamboree, and it was nice to come out and win. Reilee (Williams) was a really amazing hitter for them, but we were able to keep the ball on play. They are a good team.”

The Bulldogs again were without one of their top players, forcing Orozco to move from the right side to outside hitter.

“We are training to be tough in any situation,” Fluaitt said. “They are dedicated and are good kids. They are focusing on the moment.”

Set scores: Pasco 17-25, 25-9, 28-26, 25-14. Hanford—N/A. Pasco—Ashlin Orozco 17 kills, 3 aces, 18 digs; Rosie Diaz 10 kills, 14 digs; Victoria Estes 31 assists, 16x16 srv., 4 aces; Lacie Ortiz 35 digs.

Southridge 3, Richland 0: The Suns improved to 4-0 in MCC play and extended their league winning streak to 20 matches with a sweep of the host Bombers.

Jordan Mix led Southridge with 16 kills. Makenna Behrens chalked up 26 digs.

“Our ballhandling was the best thing tonight. Our passing rating was 2.5 (out of three), which is pretty good,” Suns coach John Lengphounpraseut said.

The Bombers, led by Annie Kump’s eight kills, couldn’t find a way to beat the Suns’ scrappiness.

“We made so many hitting errors against a good team that we didn’t give ourselves a chance to succeed,” Richland coach Bob Raidl said.
