Volleyball roundup: Kennewick overcomes slow start at Yakima SunDome Volleyball Festival

Kennewick went 0-2-1 in three pool play matches before winning three bracket matches, including the No. 4 seed finals Saturday at the SunDome Volleyball Festival in Yakima. The Lions beat Hermiston 19-25, 25-23, 15-10 in the final.

Chiawana finished second in pool play and went 2-1 in bracket play, including a victory over Richland, to finish 10th overall.

Set scores: Kennewick—(pool play) lost to East Valley 25-17, 25-20; lost to North Kitsap 25-10, 25-16; split with White River 25-20, 18-25; (No. 4 bracket) beat Davis 25-19, 25-13; beat Pasco 25-21, 25-21; beat Hermiston 19-25, 25-23, 15-10. Chiawana—(pool play) beat Glacier Peak 25-17, 25-20; beat Toppenish 25-12, 25-17; split with Cascade 25-11, 21-25; (No. 2 bracket) beat Wenatchee 25-17, 25-12; beat Richland 25-18, 25-17; lost to Gonzaga Prep 25-9, 25-12. Kennewick leaders—Taylor Hendrickson 28 kills, 10 blocks, 37 digs, 3 aces; Julisa Gonzalez 25 kills, 82 digs; 4 aces; Kaylee Hagadorn 7 aces, 18 kills, 72 assists, 56 digs. Chiawana leaders—Natasha Hill 28 kills, 24 digs; McKaiden Moore 27 kills, 23 digs; Cara Gilmore 23 kills, 8 blocks.

TC Prep fifth at Freeman Invite: Corinne Barnett collected 22 kills and 19 blocks, while Mary Seiner dug up 55 balls for the Jaguars.
