Volleyball roundup: Southridge sweeps past Chiawana
The Southridge volleyball team improved to 2-0 in Mid-Columbia Conference play, sweeping Chiawana 25-19, 25-14, 26-24 on Thursday in Kennewick.
“It was a pretty ugly match,” Suns coach John Lengphounpraseut said. “The bottom line, being in the win column is nice. Our team hitting percentage was .133. We have never won a match before with that low of a hitting percentage. Both sides made a lot of mistakes.”

Chiawana coach Jim Steach lamented his team’s mistakes on the floor. The Riverhawks made 24 hitting errors and 12 service errors.
“That’s awfully tough to beat a good team when you’re making that many errors,” Steach said.
The Riverhawks head to Yakima this weekend for the SunDome tournament.
“We’re young, and we’re playing young,” Steach said. “I believe we’re going to get there. It’s a matter of those kids gaining confidence and understanding what it means to compete at the varsity level.”
