Volleyball: TC Prep alive in 2B tourney

TC Prep splits on Day 1: The Jaguars responded to a first-round loss to LaConner with a quick sweep of Bridgeport on Friday, giving Prep a shot at a trophy finish at the Class 2B state tournament at the Yakima SunDome.

The Jags will play Wahkiakum at 9 a.m. today with the winner advancing to the 7th-8th place game at 3 p.m.

“LaConner was a pretty tough game, but I was happy with it. We started pretty strong and won a game, but couldn’t close it out,” Prep coach Jolene Calzadillas said. “We played very strong against Bridgeport. We’re excited to play a second day.”

Danika Whitsett had 22 assists in the first-round match and served up seven aces from the service line in the consolation win. Mary Hoppes and Katie Casazza each had seven kills against Bridgeport.

Lost to LaConner 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-17 — TC Prep: Katie Casazza 6 kills, 4 blocks; Mary Hoppes 9 kills, 22 digs; Danica Whitsett 22 assists.

Beat Bridgeport 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 — TC Prep: Whitsett 7 aces, 12 assists; Casazza 7 kills; Hoppes 7 kills; Mary Seiner 11 digs.
