Volleyball: Kennewick rallies past Hanford in five

Kennewick 3, Hanford 2: After losing the first two sets, the host Lions rebounded to beat the Falcons in Mid-Columbia Conference play Thursday.

Carlee Rhodes totaled 15 kills, Maddie Zinsli had a match-high 29 assists and Kelly Dyer contributed 15 digs for the Lions, who found their groove in the third set, winning 25-21.

“The girls just picked up their serve-receive passing and started finding the slots to put the ball away, talking to each other more,” Kennewick coach Julie Maciboba said.

Hanford got 11 kills from Caylee Olson, while Elise Simunds contributed four aces and 22 digs.

“In the fifth game, we just didn’t come out ready to play,” Hanford coach Carrie Antonovich said. “That might be some conditioning stuff on me, but we did a really good job. I’m really proud. I asked some girls to step up individually, and they did.”

RICHLAND 3, PASCO 1: The Bombers bounced back from a first-set loss to knock the visiting Bulldogs in Mid-Columbia Conference action.

Sarah McCormick led Richland with 22 assists, three aces and 14 digs, while Alisha Bettinson added 11 kills, five aces and 20 digs.

“We’re still kind of inconsistent,” Richland coach Bob Raidl said. “You have to play a few more matches and get a bit more confidence. A team makes a run on us and I think we lose our confidence, but I think we’re doing all right.”

Sierra Linke led Pasco with nine kills, 17 digs and two aces.

SOUTHRIDGE 3, WALLA WALLA 0: Emma Spurlock had 11 kills and Kimberly Brinkworth added nine more as visiting Southridge defeated Walla Walla in a Mid-Columbia Conference match.

Chiawana 3, Kamiakin 2: Delaney Hodgins had a five-point service run in the fifth set to help the host Riverhawks take control against the Braves in Mid-Columbia Conference action.

“She served very effectively at the end and basically took them out of the system,” Chiawana coach Jim Steach said.

Shantelle Hill had 17 kills and 13 digs for the Falcons, while Alex Johnson had 15 digs. Jaymee Steach recorded 39 assists, and her sister Megan had 10 kills.

Connell 3, Othello 1: Michelle Schultz and Courtney Colclasure served the host Eagles to a nonleague victory against the Huskies.

Colclasure was 19-for-19 serving with an ace, while Schultz was 16-for-16 serving with an ace.
