Kennewick volleyball on 3-match win streak

Kennewick had a tough time with serve receive Tuesday night, but the Lions countered with 25 kills from Breanna Shaffer to fend off the host Falcons 24-26, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 15-6 in Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball action.

“We are on a roll right now,” Lions coach Brandy Sonderland said. “Hanford had some really tough servers. They had us on the ropes. Our serve receive was horrendous, but we were able to rebound from that. We got our heads turned around and got the competitive edge going.”

The Lions (3-2), who have won three in a row, will host Southridge on Thursday.

“We can’t overlook any opponent right now,” Sonderland said. “We have been able to piece it together. They are the other 3A team we need to knock down in the rankings.”

Caylee Shelton led the Falcons (3-2) with 24 kills and 20 digs, while Kaitlyn Thompson had 55 assists and 11 digs.

“It was a tough loss in five, but I could not have been more proud of them,” Falcons coach Nichelle Meador said. “We had plenty of offense, but we were playing not to lose. Kennewick’s defense is tough, they are a scrappy team.”

RICHLAND 3, KAMIAKIN 0: Lindsay Rosenthal had 16 kills and Jordanne Bauder handed out 29 assists and had 13 digs as the Bomber made quick work of the Braves on the road.

Richland (5-0) is the only undefeated team in the MCC with two matches remaining in the first half of the season. The Bombers host Pasco on Thursday.

Maddy Eerkes had 19 assists and nine digs for Kamiakin (2-3), while Megan Massey had 12 digs and Delaney Frame four kills.

CHIAWANA 3, PASCO 1: The Riverhawks joined three other teams at 3-2 in the MCC standings after beating the Bulldogs on the road.

Mareesa Hill led Chiawana with eight kills, while Iva Tebay had six kills and Marissa Logozzo 19 digs.

Natalie Hall led Pasco (0-5) with 10 kills.

WALLA WALLA 3, SOUTHRIDGE 0: Noelani Helm had eight kills and 16 assists to lead the host Blue Devil past the Suns.

“Our hustle play tonight was fantastic,” Wa-Hi coach Tracy Rotert said. “Noelani had some huge swings, and our setters were very smart about their set choices.”

Sophia Sumner led the Suns with 13 kills, while Kennedy Conrad had 19 assists and Shayla Hood 14 digs.

“We just committed too many unforced errors,” Southridge coach John Lengphounpraseut said.

PROSSER 3, OTHELLO 0: The Mustangs rallied from an 18-8 deficit to win the first set, then went on to sweep the visiting Huskies in CWAC play.

Ashley Ripplinger had 12 kills and eight blocks for Prosser, while Kayla Lind had five kills, 10 digs and 21 assists.

Heather Hawkins led the way for Connell with nine kills and eight digs, while Makenna Price added 25 assists and eight digs.

Teresa Rojas had 52 digs for River View, with Dempsi Talkington adding seven kills.
