Connell’s Vargas leads Mid-Columbia all-state soccer honorees
Connell goalkeeper Josue Vargas, who helped lead the Eagles to a 21-1 record in his senior year, was named the Class 1A MVP by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association.
Vargas recorded 11 clean sheets for the Eagles, who finished second at state. He joined Connell teammates Alexis Ayuso (forward) and Gerardo Reyes and Lenin Guzman (midfielders) on the 1A all-state first team.
Pasco forwards Jesus Meraz-Rodriguez, who finished the season with 20 goals, and Hector Magana were voted to the Class 4A first team with Bulldogs defender Oswal Lopez.
Grandview forward Israel Gonzalez was a Class 2A first-team pick.
