Kamiakin earns regional soccer win

The Kamiakin Braves found the best way to rebound from a district championship loss is a regional tournament win.

The Braves eliminated North Central with a 2-0 win Tuesday at Lampson Stadium in the Class 3A District  5/8 regional tournament, getting a pair of second-half goals from Heather Donais and Maddie Morgan after the Indians gave them a scare.

“We were just shooting and shooting, and nothing was happening. We were trying to stay composed through the whole match waiting for something to happen,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. “They dropped back (on defense), which made it difficult to penetrate the goal. Once they started up to try an attack, we got some breathing room.”

Rachel McClure got the shutout in the Braves goal.

The Braves will travel to Mt. Spokane on Saturday to decide the No. 2 seed to the Class 3A state tournament.
