Prep girls soccer roundup for Sept. 27

As the first half of the Mid-Columbia Conference girls soccer season winds down, things are even at the top of the standings.

The host Southridge Suns earned a 2-1 victory over the Kamiakin Braves on Saturday, pulling out a 4-3 shootout win.

Savannah Brown, who had the tying goal for Southridge in the 49th minute, was among the Suns who scored in the shootout.

Southridge and Kamiakin both have 5-1 records in the MCC, though the Braves have the overall edge at 5-1-1.

“It was just two teams going at it,” Southridge coach Greg Sambrano said. “It’s just a good rivalry. Both teams left it all on the field.”

Kamiakin’s Kaylee Kraft put the Braves up in the 14th minute, and Kelci Young made 10 saves.

“I thought it was a really even match, and both teams played hard,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. “It was a big crosstown rivalry, and there were a lot of nerves involved. We will see them again.”

The first half wraps up Tuesday, when Southridge faces Pasco at Edgar BrownStadium and Walla Walla visits Kamiakin.
