Prep girls soccer roundup for Sept. 19

Offense came quickly for the Kamiakin girls soccer team Saturday against Hanford.

Freshman Aaliyah Valladares scored 3 minutes, 16 seconds into the match, and senior Lexi McQueary knocked in a goal about two minutes later to send the Braves on their way to a 4-1 victory over the host Falcons.

“I think we finished well. I think the goals we had were really nice goals,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. “We lacked a little pizzazz in the defensive department, but our finishing was well done.”

Hanford’s Maddy Bingham scored in the 28th minute, but that was it for the Falcons.

“Give credit to Kamiakin, they came out strong,” Hanford coach Kaylie Winston said. “Once we kind of settled down, we started to play better.”

Addie Oaks put Kamiakin ahead 3-1 with her goal at 61:25, and fellow sophomore Rilee Castilla capped the scoring in the 78th minute for the Braves, who moved to 4-0 in MCC play.

“We really were in the game until about the last 15 minutes, and they started pouring it on,” Winston said. “They’re a strong team.”

Mariah Brush finished with 14 saves for Hanford (1-3).

Chiawana 5, Pasco 1: Braydey Hodgins scored two goals and had an assist as the host Riverhawks routed the crosstown rival Bulldogs in MCC action.

Pasco’s Megan Wilkinson tied the score in the 15th minute, but Hodgins booted in the go-ahead goal in the 39th to help Chiawana improve to 3-1 in conference.

Othello was down to 10 players in the final 20 minutes because of a red card.
