PREP SOCCER: Riverhawks bounce back with big win over Suns
The Chiawana girls soccer team needed to find itself again after suffering a 5-0 loss to Kamiakin on Saturday.
They came back in a big way Tuesday, recording an impressive 4-0 Mid-Columbia Conference win over Southridge after getting two goals and an assist from forward Braydey Hodgins.
“This was a good way to bounce back from a poor outing Saturday. The girls came out and played really well,” Riverhawks coach Rich Zoller said. “As far as the result tonight, it didn’t matter as much as getting our fight back.”
Chiawana forwards Hodgins, Alexis Stephenson (two goals), Summer Yates (two assists) and Molly Sullivan (assist) combined for a devastating attack against the Suns’ defense.
“(Those four) gives us a pretty dynamic situation up top that’s difficult for teams to handle,” Zoller said. “But we found out Saturday we still have to defend and fight.”
Zoller credited Riverhawks goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell with “a phenomenal game. Five of her six saves were just amazing saves to keep Southridge out of the net.”

Though it’s early in the season, it might not be long until Heilman matches or surpasses her 2013 tally. She scored all four goals for host Richland in its victory over Hanford.
“She came out and played a really good game and really ran at us and made us work,” Hanford coach Kaylie Winston said.
