GIRLS SOCCER: Kamiakin shuts out Richland 2-0
The Kamiakin Braves felt the need for speed Tuesday at Bomber Field in Richland.
The Braves used some fleet feet to put the Bombers on their heels in a 2-0 Mid-Columbia Conference win.
“We have speed across the board, and they were slow in the back. Once we broke through, they could not keep up with us,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said.
Erikson did admit to having trouble with Richland forward Samantha Heilman, a returning all-MCC selection.
“We had our hands full with Heilman. She’s tough to mark. She got through for some shots, but (goalkeeper) Kelci (Young) did a good job,” Erikson said.
Lexi McQueary had a goal and an assist, and Heather Donais picked up her third goal in three games.
The Braves also defeated Hermiston 4-0 on Saturday, getting goals from Parker Lee, McQueary, Donais and Emma Oakes.

Southridge 3, Hanford 2 (SO): The Suns missed an opportunity to put the game away in regulation but went six-for-six in the shootout to claim the MCC home win over the Falcons.
“As a young team, we have to learn to put away the opportunities we’re given,” Southridge coach Greg Sambrano said. “We dominated many parts of the game. We had better chances but couldn’t put the third goal away.
“That said, give Hanford credit. They did a good job fighting back.”
The Falcons trailed 2-0 with less than 16 minutes left in regulation but got goals from Hannah Thompson and Tatum Nielson to tie the score.
“When we were down 2-0, we switched more to an attack formation. Things changed, and we started getting more shots,” said first-year Hanford coach Kaylee Winston. “That last 15 minutes, there was a spark in our team.”
