Martinez scores twice to lift Kennewick

YAKIMA -- Paul Martinez scored two goals, and Alvaro Licea added a pair of assists to lift Kennewick to a 7-2 CBBN 3A win Tuesday over West Valley.

The Lions led 2-0 at the half but added five goals in the second half.

"We actually didn't play very well. There were wet conditions. It was our second road trip," said Kennewick coach Brian Gochoel. "We certainly have room to improve. We need to buckle down against Southridge (on Saturday)."

Gochoel played three goalkeepers against the Rams. Henry Hernandez made two saves and didn't allow a goal in the first half. Jordan Powers and Jose Rodriguez each played 20 minutes in the second half, making a save apiece.

"Creating healthy competition within the squad helps us prepare for a tough league season," Gochoel said.

Eastmont 3, Kamiakin 1: Mario Guizar scored for Kamiakin in the 41st minute to rescue the Braves from a shut out in a CBBN 3A game against Eastmont at Lampson Stadium.

The Wildcats remained undefeated in league at 4-0.

Pasco 1, Sunnyside 0: Pasco's Omar Martinez scored in the 72nd minute on a Derek Zimmerman assist, and Bulldogs goalkeeper had one save to record the shut out in a CBBN 3A victory against Sunnyside at Edgar Brown Stadium.

The Bulldogs remained tied with Kennewick at 3-1 in league, one game behind first-place Eastmont.

Southridge 2, Hanford 1 (SO): Chandler Mertens scored a second-half goal to send the game to a shootout, and Southridge goalkeeper James Fort stopped two Hanford spot kicks for a CBBN 3A win Monday at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.

Scot Baker scored the Falcons' lone goal, giving Hanford a 1-0 first-half lead.

Javier Peralta recorded the shut out with two saves for the Riverhawks, who remained alone in first place at 3-1 in league. Walla Walla, Richland and Moses Lake are tied for second at 2-1.

Grandview 4, Selah 3: Selah came on strong in the second half but Grandview kept pace to pull out a CWAC 2A home victory.

Elmer Campuzano had six saves against nine shots to record the victory for the Greyhounds (2-0) and Samuel Cuevas scored the first-half's only goal in the 28th minute on a Ramiro Soto assist.

"With slippery wet conditions it was a credit to both teams," Grandview coach Anne Holden said of the game's close nature. "It was a match played in good spirit and tenacity."
