Hanford’s Winston tops All-MCC girls soccer team
Leading a Hanford High School defense that allowed one goal in its final seven regular-season matches, senior goalkeeper Kelsee Winston was named the Mid-Columbia Conference’s Player of the Year.
Winston — who is also the first team All-MCC goalkeeper for the second consecutive year — is joined on the all-league team by her older sister Kaylie, who shares the Coach of the Year honors with Southridge’s Greg Sambrano.
Southridge and Hanford were co-MCC champs, with both teams going 12-2 in conference play. The Suns won the first meeting between the two teams, 2-0 on Sept. 17 at Hanford, but the Falcons returned the favor toward the end of the season with a 1-0 victory at Southridge.
Four Falcons joined Kelsee Winston on the first team list — midfielders Sadie Newsom and Dani Mendoza, defender Blake Danna and forward Taylor Matheny. Southridge senior and last year’s co-Player of the Year Haley Thomas made the squad as a first team defender — she played forward last season — and is joined by fellow defender Emily Russell, midfielder Savannah Brown and forward McKaley Goffard.
