Mid-Columbia Conference soccer roundup: Kennewick’s season ends; Kamiakin romps
The Kennewick High School girls soccer team’s season came to a close Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to North Central in a Class 3A bi-district contest at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.
The Lions (2-15) defeated Rogers 11-0 on Monday in a loser-out match in Kennewick.
Kennewick’s Klarissa Barajas opened the scoring against North Central in the 36th minute, but the Indians tied it in the 55th and went ahead in the 62nd.
North Central will face Southridge in a bi-district semifinal match Saturday. The Suns will host the noon game.
KAMIAKIN 7, SHADLE PARK 0: The Braves earned a trip to the 3A bi-district semifinals with a win over the Highlanders at Lampson Stadium.
Britney Donais and Aaliyah Valladares each had two goals and an assist for Kamiakin (11-6), which will take on Mt. Spokane at 4 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College.
“I thought that our team really connected tonight,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. “Our passes were quick and together, and I think that the goals we had were a direct result of that movement of the ball.”
Grace Wilbur and Alyssa Humphrey combined for the shutout.

HANFORD 1, LEWIS & CLARK 0 (SO): The host Falcons won the shootout 4-1 and advanced to the 4A regional semifinals.
Hanford (14-3) will host Central Valley, a 4-0 first-round winner over Richland, at 1 p.m. Saturday. Richland (8-8) and Lewis & Clark will square off in a loser-out match Saturday (time and site TBD).
“I’m proud of the girls for battling LC,” Hanford coach Kaylie Winston said. “They have a lot of offensive power. They tested us at times, but I’m proud of the girls for battling and doing whatever it took to win.”
Hanford’s Kelsee Winston stopped eight shots. She had one save in the shootout.

CHIAWANA 5, GONZAGA PREP 0: Summer Yates scored four goals in the host Riverhawks’ 4A regional first-round win over the Bullpups. She also had an assist on Ruthie Edrington’s goal.
Alisha Ramos recorded the shutout in goal for Chiawana (10-5), which will face Mead at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Falls CC in a regional semifinal.
“I was just really proud of the girls because that’s one of the best games we played,” Chiawana coach Rich Zoller said. “I think we had a little something to prove, and we felt people have been underestimating us in our league, and the girls wanted to come out and show what we can do tonight.”
Gonzaga Prep will play Walla Walla in a loser-out contest Saturday (time and site TBD). The Blue Devils (4-13) lost to Mead 7-1 on Wednesday at Joe Albi Stadium.
Earlier in the day, Yates and Dayton-Waitsburg senior quarterback Jacob Dunn were announced among the WIAA Athletes of the Week.
