When the 2016 Associated Press Washington all-state boys and girls basketball teams were released Wednesday, several Mid-Columbians made the cut.

Richland’s Steven Beo appeared on the Class 4A boys first team for the second consecutive year. The BYU-bound guard and two-time Mid-Columbia Conference player of the year averaged 26.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in his senior season.

Meanwhile, Braydey Hodgins became the first Chiawana basketball player to make the AP all-state first team. The teams are voted on by a panel of sports writers and editors from around the state.

Hodgins, who will play for Boise State next season, earned her spot on the 4A girls squad with averages of 27.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 3.4 blocks. She also was the MCC MVP and defensive player of the year.

Mikaela Rivard (2010), Sadie Sparks (2012) and Hodgins’ older sister Delaney (2013, 2014) were honorable mention or second-team picks for the Riverhawks.

Touchet senior Cierra Jo McKeown was a repeat selection to the Class 1B girls first team along with Sunnyside Christian senior Katelyn Banks.

McKeown, who will play at Walla Walla Community College, had 25.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 5.7 steals per game for the Indians, who lost to Sunnyside Christian in the state regional round. Banks scored 39 points in that game for the Knights (26-1), who went on to finish third at state.

Mabton’s Roy Zavala finished his high school career with his second consecutive Class 2B all-state first-team selection.

Among the honorable mention picks were Grandview sophomore Gunner Chronis (2A boys), Sunnyside Christian sophomore Luke Wagenaar (1B boys) and Mabton seniors Desanay Guerrero and Irene Pineda (2B girls).
