State regional basketball pairings set

The pairings are out for the regional round of 16 for the state basketball tournaments, and many local fans will have their attention focused on Sunnyside High School and Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.

The Kamiakin boys and girls will be part of a quadruple header of hoops at Sunnyside on Saturday, with the Braves boys (17-6) playing Lincoln of Tacoma (21-4) at 4 p.m. Saturday in a Class 3A state regional. Immediately after, the Kamiakin girls (13-10) play Columbia River of Vancouver (14-11) at 6 p.m.

Additionally, the Touchet girls (18-4) play Sunnyside Christian at noon in a 1B regional, with the Sunnyside Christian boys facing Lummi Nation (19-8) at 2 p.m.

The Chiawana girls (21-3) hope to hang the first loss of the season on Moses Lake (22-0) at 8 p.m. Friday at Big Bend. Earlier, the Liberty Christian boys (15-8) play another unbeaten team, Almira/Coulee-Hartline (23-0), in a 1B matchup at 6 p.m.

The Columbia-Burbank girls (19-5) play Lakeside of 9 Mile Falls (19-3) at 2 p.m. Saturday at University High School in Spokane in a 1A game. On the other side of the SCAC East aisle, the Connell boys (19-5) play Cashmere (17-5) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Wenatchee HS.

The Sunnyside girls (16-7) take on Lewis & Clark (18-6) at 4 p.m. Saturday at West Valley-Spokane in 4A play. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague fans have a 2B doubleheader Saturday at Mt. Spokane, with the boys (17-10) playing Warden at 10 a.m., and the girls (19-8) playing St. George’s (20-6) at noon.

Finally, the DeSales boys (14-7) play Mossyrock (17-7) at noon Saturday at W.F. West in Chehalis in a 2B matchup.
