Chiawana girls move on to state regionals, beating Richland 67-57
Braydey Hodgins continued to be money at the free-throw line, and it paid off handsomely for the Chiawana Riverhawks on Saturday night.
Hodgins sank 21 of 25 at the foul line and scored 35 points as the Riverhawks rallied from a slow start for a 67-57 win over the visiting Richland Bombers in a Mid-Columbia Conference/Greater Spokane League elimination game.
The win secures a berth into the state regionals for Chiawana (21-3), but also spells the end of the season for the Bombers (18-7).
The Riverhawks were expected to find out late Saturday night their first-round opponent at state next weekend.
Hodgins, who went 42-for-48 at the line in two subregional games, also had three assists and four steals. Adelina Guzman added 12 points for the Riverhawks, who trailed 15-6 at the end of the first quarter but forged a tie by halftime.
Gia Sorn led Richland with 12 points, and Hailey Stevens added 10 points and seven rebounds.

MT. SPOKANE 60, SOUTHRIDGE 51: Four-year starter Shyler Sullivan scored 28 points in her final game in a Suns uniform, but Southridge couldn’t keep pace in the fourth quarter of the MCC/GSL elimination game.
The Suns (12-12) led by one after three quarters on the road, but they were outscored 23-13 over the final eight minutes.

COLUMBIA-BURBANK 45, NACHES VALLEY 41: The Coyotes beat the Rangers for the third time this season to secure the SCAC District 5 No. 3 seed to the 1A state regionals.
“We live to play another day, which we’re really, really happy about,” Columbia-Burbank coach Jay Aune said.
Jamie Ellis scored 12 points for the Coyotes (19-5), and Taylor Turner had 11 in the loser-out game in Sunnyside.
The Coyotes shot 20-for-33 from the free-throw line, including 11-for-14 in the fourth quarter. Ellis and Caitlyn Aune each were 4-for-4 in the period.

1B DISTRICT 5: The Sunnyside Christian girls (23-0) defeated Lyle-Wishram 70-37 on Friday for the district title and the No. 1 seed to state regionals.
On the boys side, Sunnyside Christian beat Yakama Tribal 62-61 on Saturday to claim the district championship. The Knights (20-5) beat Yakama Tribal 75-61 on Friday to force Saturday’s game.

SPOKANE WOMEN 73, CBC 61: Marissa Caballero had 17 points and three assists, but the visiting Hawks (16-11, 8-4) couldn’t climb out of a 21-5 hole to start the game against the NWAC East-leading Sasquatch (21-6, 10-2).
Emily Botkin added 12 points for CBC. Jenessa Heine had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Spokane, which won its 10th in a row, and Bri King added 18 points and 10 assists.
