Prep basketball for Feb. 10: Chiawana girls up to sixth in AP poll
The Chiawana girls basketball team moved up a spot to No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press Class 4A state poll.
The Riverhawks (19-2 overall) completed an undefeated regular season in Mid-Columbia Conference play. They will host Walla Walla or Richland in Saturday’s 4A district championship game.
The Mabton girls went up a spot to No. 4 in the 2B rankings.
Sunnyside Christian (No. 2) and Touchet (No. 7) didn’t budge in the 1B poll. Undefeated Sunnyside Christian received one first-place vote and was six points behind Colton.
On the boys side, Liberty Christian moved back into the 1B rankings, tying with Lummi for 10th. Richland (4A), Kamiakin (3A), Connell (1A) and Sunnyside Christian (1B) got points but didn’t make the top 10 in their respective classifications.
ST. JOHN-ENDICOTT GIRLS 62, LIBERTY CHRISTIAN 48: The Patriots got big contributions from Karlee Souve and Bella Loera, but they lost to the host Eagles in their Southeast 1B District 9 opener.
Souve had 18 points and 19 rebounds, while Loera finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds for Liberty Christian, which will play the Colton/Pomeroy loser in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Monday at Walla Walla Community College.
St. John-Endicott will visit No. 2 seed Touchet at 6 p.m. Friday.
