For the basketball teams playing in Friday night’s Mid-Columbia Conference district games, winning will extend their seasons at least another week.

On the boys side, Chiawana (12-9) takes on host Walla Walla (13-7) at 7 p.m. in a Class 4A elimination game. Southridge (10-10) will host Kennewick (11-10) in a 3A loser-out game at 7:30 p.m.

In Saturday’s district championship games, Richland (17-3) will host the Chiawana/Walla Walla winner, while Kamiakin (15-5) hosts Southridge or Kennewick. The finalists go on to next week’s MCC/Greater Spokane League subregional.

The GSL also is moving through its district tournaments this week. Thursday’s 4A District 8 games feature University (10-11) at Gonzaga Prep (19-1) and Central Valley (16-4) at Lewis & Clark (16-4). Friday night, the winners will play for 1-2 seeding to subregional, and the losers will face off for the No. 3 and final seed.

Rogers (5-17) will visit Shadle Park (14-6) on Friday night to decide the 3A District 8 champion and 1-2 sub-regional seeding.

Out of the 3A subregional, two teams will advance to the state round of 16 (Feb. 26-27). The MCC district champion will host a Feb. 19 game against the GSL champ for the No. 1 seed to state regionals, meaning the winner would have one game next week. The loser will host the GSL No. 2/MCC No. 2 winner Feb. 20 for the other state regional slot.

In the 4A subregional bracket, three state regional berths are available. The MCC district runner-up hosts a loser-out game Tuesday against the GSL’s No. 3 team. That winner will visit the GSL No. 1 seed Feb. 19 for a spot in the Feb. 20 title game against the MCC No. 1/GSL No. 2 winner. The subregional champion and runner-up will be the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds for state regionals. The losers of the Feb. 19 semifinals will meet the next day to determine the third and final seed.

2A CWAC: With Prosser’s 69-68 loss to Toppenish in Tuesday night’s district opener, no more Mid-Columbia teams remain in the bracket.

1A SCAC: One SCAC East team will be in Saturday’s SCAC district semifinals.

Connell (17-4) will face La Salle (16-5), while Naches Valley (12-9) and Zillah (20-1) will square off in the other semifinal.

In Saturday’s loser-out games, Kiona-Benton (15-6) will play Columbia-Burbank (7-14), and Royal (7-14) will meet Granger (9-12). Toppenish and Wapato are the host sites for Saturday’s games. Game times and locations will be set after Thursday’s girls district openers.

The double-elimination tournament continues until Feb. 20. Four teams will advance to the state regional round.

DISTRICT 9 2B/1B: Asotin and host DeSales will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday to settle 1-2 seeding for next week’s 2B District 7/9 tournament. Waitsburg and Walla Walla Valley Academy will play at 3:30 p.m. Friday at DeSales for the No. 3 seed. Five teams will advance to the state regional round out of the subregional.

The Southeast 1B District 9 double-elimination tournament begins at 6 p.m. today with Oakesdale at Colton and Touchet visiting Pomeroy. Saturday, the Oakesdale/Colton winner heads to Liberty Christian, while the Touchet/Pomeroy winner goes to Garfield-Palouse. Two teams will go to the state regional round out of the district tournament, which ends Feb. 20.
