Mid-Columbia girls basketball roundup for Jan. 23: Chiawana dominates Walla Walla 95-64
The Chiawana girls basketball team’s hot streak in the Mid-Columbia Conference will stretch into another week.
Braydey Hodgins had 26 points, leading five Riverhawks in double figures, as Chiawana improved to 14-2 overall and 9-0 in the MCC with Saturday’s 95-64 win over visiting Walla Walla.
Meghan Yenney (17 points) was one of four Wa-Hi players in double figures, but the Blue Devils were outscored 25-6 in the second quarter as Chiawana took a 53-28 halftime lead.
Emma Wenzel had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Walla Walla (7-9, 5-5).

KAMIAKIN 70, HANFORD 34: Freshman Oumou Toure scored 17 points, and the Braves (9-7, 6-4) had three other players in double figures in their MCC home win over the Falcons.

SOUTHRIDGE 59, KENNEWICK 56: After stunning Kamiakin on a buzzer-beater Friday night, Southridge edged Kennewick on the Lions’ home court.
Shyler Sullivan had 15 points for the Suns (8-6, 5-4 MCC), who won despite being outscored 37-31 in the second half.
Kennewick’s Jayln Norwood led all scorers with her second consecutive 22-point game. She also grabbed seven rebounds for the Lions (5-10, 4-6).
“We normally get about 50 rebounds a game, and we had 17 tonight,” Kennewick coach Ashley Williams said. “They’re good rebounders, too. It just came down to rebounding and a few missed shots at the end.”

RICHLAND 66, PASCO 37: The Bombers jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter, then went on a 36-22 tear in the second half to hand the Bulldogs an MCC loss at Art Dawald Gym.
Mickala Trappett led Richland (12-3, 7-2 MCC) with 13 points, five assists and four steals, while Gia Sorn added 12 points and five rebounds and Kamri von Oelhoffen 11 points and five rebounds.
“They did a good job getting it into the post,” Richland coach Cindy McCoy said. “It was a nice team effort.”
Bella Gutierrez led Pasco (3-13, 2-8) with 12 points and five rebounds, while Jalayne Martinez chipped in eight points and six rebounds.

COLTON 58, TOUCHET 55: Cierra Jo McKeown poured in a game-high 31 points — including a 17-for-20 performance at the free-throw line — but it wasn’t enough as the Indians fell at home to the six-time defending state champion Wildcats in Southeast 1B action.
“All of their girls can shoot 3s very well, and all their players can play,” Touchet coach Malissa McKeown said. “We started the game off really well, then we had some mental mistakes and I had to sit Cierra Jo (foul trouble) for about 4 minutes, and that didn’t help.”
The Indians (8-2) were a combined 19-for-30 from the line.
“If we just could have made our free throws, we would have won,” coach McKeown said.
Zoe Moser led Colton (10-0) with 21 points and six assists.
