Mid-Columbia girls basketball roundup for Jan. 22: Southridge stuns Kamiakin 49-48

Jaid Harris hit a half-court shot at the end of the third quarter, then hit the game-winner from the left baseline with 3 seconds remaining to lead the Southridge girls basketball team to a 49-48 home win over Kamiakin in Mid-Columbia Conference action Friday night.

“We were down 13 or 14 points in the first half, and we were down by 12 at the half,” Southridge coach Mike Conner said. “We played really well down the stretch. We had 47 rebounds, which is huge for us.”

Ellie Smith led the Suns (7-6 overall, 4-4 MCC) with 15 points and 25 rebounds, while Shyler Sullivan went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and finished with 11 points.

Oumou Toure led the Braves (8-7, 5-4) with 16 points. She was limited to three in the second half, as Kamiakin was held to 13 points.

“We controlled the tempo,” Conner said. “Haley Thomas and Amanda Saunders did a great job guarding Toure in the second half.”

Kenedy Cartwright (11 points) and Eliza Guzman (10) also scored in double figures for Chiawana, which led 29-8 at halftime.

Emily Beattie had 10 points for Hanford, and Lydia Webb grabbed 10 rebounds.

Gabby Clinton scored 17 points for Kennewick, while Bianca Chavez finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Pasco sophomore Bella Gutierrez recorded her third consecutive double-double, ending with 26 points and 15 rebounds.
