Girls basketball roundup for Jan. 15: Hodgins leads Chiawana past Kamiakin
The Kamiakin Braves may have one of the brightest future stars of the Mid-Columbia Conference in freshman guard Oumou Toure, but the Chiawana Riverhawks still have the best player in the league in Braydey Hodgins, who had perhaps her strongest game of the year in the Riverhawks’ 76-42 win over the Braves on Friday in Pasco.
Hodgins scored a game-high 38 points and added 12 rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists for Chiawana (11-2 overall, 6-0 MCC).
The Riverhawks took a 20-9 first-quarter lead and extended it to 37-19 at the half. They kept the pressure on in the second half, outscoring the Braves 39-21.
Toure was impressive, too, scoring a team-high 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. But Kamiakin shot just 25 percent (14-for-56) on the day, including 4-for-21 from 3-point range.
The Riverhawks outrebounded Kamiakin 50-37, getting a 10-0 edge on second-chance points.

“We’ve got some momentum going,” said Barcot, whose team beat Walla Walla last Saturday. “We’re a young group — five sophomores — so we’re going to see if we can hold on to that.”
