Richland defeats Kamiakin
In a matchup of marquee teams and superstar players, it was the unsung hero that saved the day.
Richland senior Ryan Wagar sank a five-footer with under 5 seconds left to play to give the Bombers a 72-70 Mid-Columbia Conference win over Kamiakin on Saturday in Kennewick.
Richland (8-3, 5-0 MCC) took a 23-10 first-quarter lead, but the Braves (9-2, 3-2) bounced back, outscoring the Bombers 43-25 over the next 16 minutes to take a 53-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Steven Beo led all scorers for Richland with 24 points, while Landon Radliff chipped in 21.
Isaiah Brimmer (20 points) and Garrett Paxton (19) combined for 39 points to lead the Braves.

SOUTHRIDGE 80, CHIAWANA 67: Brad Morgan had a career-high 32 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Suns to a home victory over the Riverhawks in MCC action.
“He’s been struggling a bit, so this was nice,” Suns coach DJ Traver said. “It helps with him chipping in like that. We shot really well tonight (59 percent). We got the shots we wanted.”
Cayden Cazier led Chiawana with 29 points.

PASCO 49, WALLA WALLA 40: Jalayne Martinez and Lexi Montelongo combined for 33 points as the Bulldogs bounced back from a crushing loss Friday night with a win over the defending MCC champion Blue Devils.
“We had a long talk during shootaround. We had some non-basketball related issues boiling to the surface, and it was time to own some of those things,” Pasco coach Aaron Barcot said. “It was a huge win, especially after (Friday) night (a 72-24 loss to Chiawana).”
Montelongo, who finished with 16 points, sank eight free throws over the final five minutes to ice the win.
“We were up 10 points and she just took off and attacked the rim,” said Barcot, who also praised Mercedes Pesina for her defensive play.
Kate Hogan led Wa-Hi with 10 points.

Braves freshman Alexa Hazel didn’t make it easy, finishing with a game-high 26, including 12 in the final frame. Kamiakin had a chance to tie the game with a 3-point attempt at the buzzer, but it was blocked.
