Boys basketball roundup: Wa-Hi edges Hanford at FT line

Walla Walla’s Mitch Lesmeister made two free throws with 34 seconds to play Friday night as the Blue Devils held off the visiting Hanford Falcons 63-61 in Mid-Columbia Conference play.

The Falcons had two chances at the end, but missed a 3-pointer and a 5-foot shot at the buzzer.

“The kids faught back for a chance to win,” Hanford coach Paul Mayer said.

The Blue Devils had a 17-point lead at the half, and led by 13 at one point in the fourth quarter.

“You hate to see that,” Wa-Hi coach John Golden said of losing two big leads.

Andrew Harvey led Wa-Hi (2-1) with 26 points and five assists, while Jacob Sivonen had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Hanford (1-3).

Sebastian Gutierrez led Pasco (1-9, 0-4) with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

KAMIAKIN 55, KENNEWICK 50: The host Lions got within three points late but couldn’t get any closer as the Braves made their free throws to escape with the MCC win.

Hayden Nelson led Kamiakin (9-1, 3-1) with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Garrett Paxton scored 16 points.

Kafaya Bugal had 15 points for Kennewick (6-4, 2-2) to go with seven rebounds, six assists and five steals.
