Kamiakin girls, Prosser boys and girls, Burbank boys advance to WA hoops semifinals

Kamiakin’s Maddy Rendall was 6 for 13 from 3-point field goal range to send the No. 7 Braves over No. 8 Emerald Ridge into Friday night’s semifinals.

The 55-52 quarterfinal victory means Kamiakin advanced to take on No. 4 Eastlake at 7:15 p.m. in the WIAA Class 4A girls high school basketball tournament in Tacoma.

Rendall finished with 18 points and 7 rebounds, and she was the only Braves player to score in double figures.

Kamiakin as a team went 12-for-25 from the 3-point line.

The Braves outscored the Jaguars 43-23 in the middle two quarters to take control of the contest. But Emerald Ridge had a furious fourth-quarter rally that just came up short at the end.

Class 4A boys

Richland never got untracked in its quarterfinal, losing to No. 2 Mount Si 80-46 in the Tacoma Dome on Thursday.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 24-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. They will play No. 3 Olympia in the semifinals Friday.

Richland, meanwhile, will take on No. 5 Gonzaga Prep at 10:30 a.m. Friday in a loser-out game.

Luke Westerfield led Richland with 11 points and 6 rebounds. The Bombers, however, couldn’t get there 3-point shot attempts to fall, only going 2 for 20.

Bennett Olujic led Mount Si with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists; while teammate Miles Heide added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Mount Si outrebounded Richland 45-33.

Class 2A boys

Prosser outscored RA Long of Longview 16-11 in the fourth quarter to win a state quarterfinal matchup 47-44 in the Yakima Valley SunDome on Thursday.

With the win, the seventh-seeded Mustangs (19-4) will play No. 6 Lynden in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Prosser won despite shooting just 1 for 15 from the 3-point line. But the Mustangs’ pressure was intense enough that they outscored the Lumberjacks 23-8 in points off of turnovers.

Kevin Flores led Prosser with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals; Koby McClure added 10 points and 3 steals; and JJ Reyes had 10 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Calvin Holden led Long with 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Class 2A girls

Prosser’s girls punched their ticket into the semifinals on Thursday when the No. 4 Mustangs routed No. 6 W.F. West of Chehalis 58-33.

And now, for the fourth time this season, Prosser will take on it Central Washington Athletic Conference rival, No. 1 Ellensburg, for the fourth time this season.

Their semifinal is set for 7:15 p.m., Friday, in the SunDome. Ellensburg has won their three previous meetings.

Ellensburg beat Othello 62-29 in another quarterfinal game.

In Wednesday’s win, Prosser actually went into the locker room at halftime trailing West 23-18.

But the Mustangs defense harassed the Bearcats defense and outscored them 40-10 in the second half.

In all, Prosser’s pressure forced 34 West turnovers, and the Mustangs outscored the Bearcats 28-1 in points off of turnovers. Prosser had 20 steals in the game.

Freshman Deidra Phillips led Prosser with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Sophomore Adriana Milanez added 13 points and 7 steals, and sophomore Laylee Dixon had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals.

Julia Dalan led West with 16 points and 8 rebounds.

In Ellensburg’s win, Olivia Anderson scored 23 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and blocked 4 shots to lead the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs scored 29 points off of 16 Othello turnovers, and outscored the Huskies 38-12 in the second half.

Annalee Coronado led the Huskies with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Othello will play WF West at 12:15 p.m. Friday in a loser-out game.

Class 2B boys

Quincy Scott scored 22 points and Tristan Frimodt added 21 as Columbia-Burbank exploded in the second half to beat No. 3 Lake Roosevelt 82-53 in the 2B quarterfinals in the Spokane Arena on Thursday.

The fourth-seeded Coyotes were actually trailing 30-25 at halftime.

But in the second half, Burbank outscored Lake Roosevelt 57-23 to easily win.

Burbank meets top-ranked Davenport at 3:45 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

Scott added 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals; while Frimodt had 5 rebounds.

The Coyotes scored 24 points off of 22 Lake Roosevelt turnovers.

Class 2B girls

Defending state champion Warden sank eight 3-point field goals and never trailed in beating No. 6 LaConner 58-43 in the state quarterfinals at the Spokane Arena.

The Cougars, seed fourth in the tournament, were led by Lauryn Madsen — who had 23 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals.

Teammates Quinn Erdmann (16 points and 4 assists) and JLynn Rios (12 points) also played well for Warden.

Ellie Marble led LaConner with 24 points.

Warden now plays No. 1 Colfax at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

It’s a rematch of last year’s state championship game.

Meanwhile, Mabton fell to No. 2 Okanogan 87-60 in the late game Thursday night. The Bulldogs outscored the Vikings 50-27 over the middle two quarters.

Okanogan will meet No. 3 Napavine in the 9 p.m. semifinal game on Friday.

Mabton, seeded 8th, will play No. 5 Adna at 2 p.m. Friday in a loser-out contest.

Class 1B boys

The DeSales and Sunnyside Christian boys — rivals in the Southeast 1B League — will meet for a fourth time this season in Friday night’s state semifinals in the Spokane Arena.

Tip-off will be at 9 p.m.

Both squads won quarterfinal games. The No. 3 Irish pounded No. 5 Moses Lake Christian/Covenant Christian 65-35, while No. 2 SSC beat No. 16 Orcas Island 56-47.

No other stats were available.
