Small-school hoops: Tri-Cities Prep boys and girls take 3rd at districts
Talia von Oelhoffen posted 22 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five blocks, and the Tri-Cities Prep girls basketball team got past the Lake Roosevelt Raiders 54-50 on Saturday in the District 5/6 third-/fourth-place game at Granger High School.
Prep trailed by two points at intermission and tied it up heading into the fourth quarter. Alyssa Monteon added 11 points and four assists for the EWAC-champion Jags.
Both teams were already guaranteed regional berths. TCP (17-5) entered the day ranked No. 11 in 2B RPI, and will either host a loser-out, winner-to-state game next weekend, or go on the road for a both-to-state game if it becomes one of the top eight teams qualified for regionals.
On Friday, the Jaguars fell to the Mabton Vikings (19-4) 66-60 in the district semifinal. The EWAC Co-Players of the Year stole the show as Mabton’s Britnee Guerrero scored 24 points and von Oelhoffen poured in 26.
CLE ELUM 61, CONNELL 45: Morgan Smith scored 15 points as the Eagles (15-9) saw their season come to a close Saturday in a winner-to-regionals, loser-out game of the SCAC district playoffs at Wahluke.
The SCAC West took all three of the district’s regional berths, with Zillah and La Salle squaring off in the championship game later Saturday.
FRIDAY BOYS
BREWSTER 61, TRI-CITIES PREP 45: Kobe Singleton and Stefan Geist each scored 16 points, and Geist added four steals, but the Jaguars fell to the CWB champion Bears in the District 5/6 2B semifinal at Granger.
In the third-/fourth-place game on Saturday, TCP beat Oroville 53-48, though stats have not yet been reported. Both teams were already guaranteed regional berths.
