Basketball: Norwood’s monster game leads Kennewick boys past Rogers in OT

Jenner Norwood scored 30 points and had 15 rebounds Saturday to lead the Kennewick High School boys basketball team to a 72-65 overtime win over Rogers at the Lions Den.

The Pirates’ Cole Riblet sank one of two free throws at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Anyoni Benavidez added 17 points for the Lions (3-1), while Martavis Haggins had five rebounds.

Max Babich led Rogers with 20 points.

DAVIS 60, WALLA WALLA 41: The Pirates held a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, and controlled the game from there in handing the Blue Devils a nonleague loss in Yakima.

Tyler Greene, Taylor Hamada and Jack Weigand each had nine points for Walla Walla (2-1).

Alexzander Delgado led Davis with 18 points.

PROSSER 85, GRANDVIEW 76: Hayden Hicks poured in 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help the Mustangs to a road win over the Greyhounds.

Prosser was on the losing end of the game going into the fourth quarter, where it scored 32 points to take control.

Teegan Cox scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, while Hicks had 11.

SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 83, MABTON 34: Luke Wagenaar led all scorers with 16 points as the visiting Knights (2-0) stormed past the Vikings in nonleague play.

Jose Morales led Mabton (0-4) with 10 points.

BICKLETON 58, GRANGER JV 35: Cesareo Arriaga had 20 points and 26 rebounds to lead the host Pirates to a nonleague win.

Girls basketball

KENNEWICK 83, ROGERS 46: Meilani McBee had 15 points — all on 3-pointers — and Reilyn Davis added 13 points as the Lions rolled to a nonleague home win over the Pirates.

Aislin Fiander, Alex Morfin and Alicia Oatis each added 12 points for Kennewick, which opened with a 20-9 lead in the first quarter and never took its foot off the gas.

Shaeli Morrison led Rogers with a game-high 24 points.

LEWISTON 47, CHIAWANA 33: The Riverhawks led 13-10 after the first quarter, but couldn’t sustain anything on offense, falling on the road against the 7-1 Bengals in nonleague action.

Clare Eubanks was Chiawana’s leading scorer with eight points (and three blocks) as the Riverhawks (3-2) mustered just one point in the second quarter to trail 26-14 at halftime.

SUNNYSIDE 70, RICHLAND 64 (OT): Hailey Stevens and Megan Holm each had 18 points, but the Bombers couldn’t overcome the visiting Grizzlies in overtime.

Richland (2-3) won the fourth quarter 18-16 to force the extra session, but a combined 10-for-11 free-throw shooting performance by Ashlee Maldanado and Kameran Rodriguez in OT proved to be the difference for Sunnyside (2-1). Rodriguez led all scorers with 23 points on 12 of 15 shooting from the line, while Maldanado had 18 points on 12 of 15 free-throw shooting.

PROSSER 59, GRANDVIEW 49: Marissa Cortes had a game-high 28 points, and Madison Golden chipped in nine points and 22 rebounds as the Mustangs broke open a close game with a 23-13 run in the fourth quarter.

Michelle Ruiz led the Greyhounds with 15 points, while Karina Fajardo and Bailey Duis each had nine rebounds.

SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 71, MABTON 50: Sailor Liefke had a game-high 21 points and Emily Banks added 17 as the visiting Knights took down the Vikings in a nonleague contest.

Swimming

WALLA WALLA INVITATIONAL: Hanford’s Skyler Youkin was the Mid-Columbia’s lone individual winner on the day, taking top honors in the 100 butterfly at Whitman College’s Harvey Pool.

Younkin turned in a state qualifying time of 51.36 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than Wenatchee’s Isaiah Ross.

Younkin also was part of the Falcons’ 200 medley relay that finished second in a state qualifying time of 1:42.76. Also on the team are Ryan Monrean, Jack Elliott and John Markillie.
