Richland boys reach title game in Utah basketball tourney
The Richland boys basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Great Western Shootout on Friday after beating Timpanogos, Utah, 71-47.
The Bombers opened play Thursday with a 66-63 victory over host Orem, Utah. They will play nationally ranked Wasatch Academy in Saturday’s title game.
Friday, 7-foot-3 senior Riley Sorn had 17 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Bombers, who led 36-16 at the half, and had a 29-point lead over the Timberwolves in the second half.
Cole Northrop added 16 points, and Garrett Streufert 11 points and 12 rebounds.
In a well-balanced game Thursday night, Richland used a 25-22 run in the fourth quarter to secure a the win over the Orem Tigers.
Northrop led the way with 19 points, while Sorn added 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
Orem, which had eight 3-pointers, was led by Ross Reeves with 22 points and four assists.
