Stanfield beats Santiam Christian for Oregon 3A baseball title
Brody Woods pitched two innings of two-hit ball and drove in two runs to help Stanfield to a 5-4, 10-inning victory over Santiam Christian for the Oregon 3A state baseball title Friday at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.
Tigers starter Dylan Grogan pitched eight solid innings, scattering four hits and striking out nine before giving way to Woods.
Stanfield took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, then added another in the third before Santiam Christian came back with three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score.
Ryan Bailey singled to drive in a runs for the Tigers in the top of the 10th, and a sacrifice fly by Woods gave Stanfield a 5-3 lead.
The Eagles scored an unearned run with two out in the bottom of the 10th, but with Tanner Macal grounding out to Antonio Flores at shortstop, the Tigers held on for the win.
Bailey finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs for the Tigers, while Flores and Jason Fitzpatrick had two hits apiece.
Stanfield (29-2), which won the 2A/1A title in 2011, gave up more than three runs for just the seventh time this season.
Santiam Christian (25-4), the defending state champion, saw Dru Draper go 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
