Mid-Columbia Legion teams ready for regional playoffs
The Kennewick Bandits rolled to a Central Washington League AAA doubleheader sweep of the Twin City Titans on Tuesday, securing the No. 2 seed to Saturday’s four-team regional playoff in Centralia.
Kennewick got a big day from Josh Kutzke, who drove in two runs in the Bandits’ 8-1 Game 1 win and then knocked in five more in a 21-10 Game 2 victory. Dylan Wilbert also did work with seven RBIs over both games.
The Bandits (21-5), which finished second to the Yakima Pepsi Pak in the CWL, will play the Spokane Blue Devils on Saturday. Each of the four AAA regionals will send two teams to the state tournament, also in Centralia, on July 26-30.
The Hanford Flames — the CWL’s No. 3 seed — will play the Spokane North Stars at 10 a.m. Saturday at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham.
The Pepsi Pak (24-2) will host their own regional at Carlon Park in Selah. The Pak will play CWL No. 4 Yakima Beetles at 2 p.m.

Junior Legion AA: The CWL AA season came to a close Wednesday, and the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds to the Area 4 District playoffs beginning Saturday have been decided.
In the North bracket at Recreation Park in Wenatchee, the No. 3 Hanford Flames will play the Yakima Valley Peppers at 1 p.m. Saturday, while the Kennewick Dusters will play Apple Valley at 4 p.m.
At Southridge High School, Walla Walla will face West Valley at 1 p.m., and the Kennewick Bandits will play the Yakima Beetles at 4 p.m.
Each bracket will produce a champion, and the runners-up will play off Monday at the South site for the No. 3 seed to state.

Junior Legion A: The Kennewick Pepsi Cola Dusters, the CWL A champion, will host the Area 4 Regional playoff beginning Saturday at LaPierre Field. The Dusters will face Mead at 2 p.m.
The Kennewick Bandits, the No. 2 seed, will face Chewelah at 11 a.m. in the Area 2 bracket in North Kitsap. The Hanford Flames (12-12) or Richland Knights (12-10) will face Prairie at 11 a.m. in the Area 1 bracket. If Richland swept the Pasco Sun Devils in their Wednesday doubleheader, they would finish in a tie with Hanford for third. But the Knights would advance based on taking three of four games against the Flames during the regular season.
