Hanford's Benard shines in Feeder game
Isaac Benard of Hanford went 4-for-4 with three home runs to highlight the Mid-Columbia Conference feeder game at Bomber Field in Richland on Monday night.
Benard, playing for the team comprised of players from Chiawana, Hanford, Kennewick and Walla Walla High Schools, led his side to a 22-6 win. Colton Plew of Kennewick went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Spencer Locati of Walla Walla Walla went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
“(Benard) put on a show. Those were good pitchers, too,” Richland coach Grant Richardson said. “It’s one of those things we might never see again.”
Hayden Burrus of Kamiakin went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the team made up of players from Kamiakin, Pasco, Richland and Southridge.
The MCC coaches will nominate 10 players from the game for the chance to play in the All-State feeder game June 14-15 at Parker Field in Yakima.
w The Richland Knights A team won four games over the weekend, starting with a 9-7, 11-3 Saturday sweep of Mt. Spokane. Derek Harder had three hits in the opener, while Elgin McClean went 4-for-4 in the nightcap.
The next day, the Knights swept Moscow, Idaho, getting a walk-off single from Griffey March in the bottom of the eighth for a 10-9 Game 1 victory. In Game 2, Derek Guffey scattered nine hits but allowed just three runs in a 9-3 complete-game win.
